Fuel sender mounting

Wasn't really sure where to post this but i figured the fuel goes to the engine so i shouldn't be a million miles away...

I've just bought a fuel sender that mounts using 5 screws into the top of the tank, i think it's a fairly common arrangement. The tank doesn't have any mounting holes so do i have to drill and tap them or do people mount them some other way? Can i drill some holes and use self tappers to put a thread in them?

Pete

It's not that I'm lazy, it's that I just don't care...
