any diesel experts around??
changed my timing belt the other and the car wont start now, it just sort of vrooms up to 1000rpm then dies straight away, i thought it might be an
air block in the injection system but ive tried bleeding it to no reall effect. my main question really is will this happen if ive screwed up on the
belt and misaligned something. im 99.9% sure non of the pulleys moved, and i would think that just a notch either would just retard or advance it a
bit which should still run but a bit rough. so im out of ideas, it would take about 3 hours to take it all apart again to check the allignment so i
want to avoid that. i bloody hate these modern cars, everything is compacted into tiny little spaces, you have an inch gap at the top of the engine to
get to the belt!
Cheers,
Russ.

my friend had that on a freelander once, managed to jump a tooth but avoided buggering the valves. wouldnt rev past 2k in that instance.

peugeot 306 1.9 diesel. after bleeding the injectors i started it with the throttle all the way down and it started and jumped up to 4000 revs then
died again (probably cos took my foot of the accelerator cos i didnt want it to explode) , i tried a couple of other times and it sometimes gets to
3000 and then stutters a bit at 2000 and dies again.
sounds like the air is still in the injector pipes to me but it wont run run long enough for me to bleed it properly.
Cheers,
Russ.

hm cant really go wrong with them, start from the begining again, did you use bolts to lock the pump and cam and a screwdriver for the crank(hole beneth
starter motor)make sure all the marks are ok,you didnt loosen the 3 bolts on the pump pulley did you?
if everything is ok and it is sitting on level ground soundl like air has got in somewhere
who cares who wins

I deleted it cos it was my experience for a petrol engine - I missed the diesel bit
but, I said I had a hilman imp that jumped a cam tooth once and it was similar - lack of revs and well low power.

looks like mine jumped about 6, just shows you can easily bugger up if your careless. sorted now though and runs fine. everything was lined up but the
fly wheel timing holes was about an inch forward of the crankcase hole.
Cheers for the help!
