flywheel & torque

Hi all
i'd like to lighten my flywheel as the dohc one is a fairly lardy lump!
thing is , the dohc engine has very good low down torque. I know that lightening the flywheel will improve engine pick up, & to some degree will reduce engine braking, but to my thinking the torque should remain the same..........unless anybody knows different!

torque is a rotational force produced by the engine. Flywheel weight has no effect on the torque produced, only what happens to it afterwards.

Have a good read of the info on

www.pumaracing.co.uk

I recall quite a good explanation there.

Reducing the rotational inertia will not reduce the torque but it will make the engine easier to stall.

If you take a lot of weight off it can affect the tickover but I doubt you would be able to remove that much from a standard flywheel without making it dangerous.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
