Thermostat temperature
One more question for today!
I think my water thermostat fan switch is knackered (it's the one from the original engine) so I am about to buy another. Burtons have a choice
of 3 operating temps:
88°, 92° or 95°
Now, 88° seems most sensible for the closed-in Locost engine compartment, especially as keeping the whole thing cool seems to be a major Locost issue,
but are there any down-sides to picking the lowest temp?

Am i right in thinking that a thermostat that opens too early means the engine does not run at the most efficient temperature for that engine?
If a bolt is stuck force it.
If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway!!!

I would of thought that it depends on the 'normal operating temp' of the engine... unfortunately I don't know what this is so
I'm not much help am I..!
88 degrees does seem a trifle low though?

Sorry David.
You were talking about the fan switch not the thermostat.
Thats the trouble with reading these posts quickly at work between jobs!!!
If a bolt is stuck force it.
If it breaks, it needed replacing anyway!!!

Or the system tool 'character map' - very useful for finding all sorts of obscure symbols!

i think that the fan switch temperature wants to be a few degrees higher than the thermostat temperature, otherwise i get the feeling they will be
battling for control, ie the moment water goes thru the radiator the fan comes on, cools it too much so the engine thermostat closes again... doesnt
sound economical. It does depend on your cooling system though i guess, is yours not pressurised? maybe cooler is better.
