how to tell st engine to normal?
Hi all i need help again...
I blew my engine up what was a silver top zetec engine, i have replaced this with a backtop as i got told these are the better engine. it took quite
alot of work to make it fit as the sump were different and we had to make new pullys and engine mounts but we got it in.
for some reason it feels quite abit slower and im unsure why, i got told when i bought it the silver top engine it was 170BHP, i want to know if it
was a 170ST engine or if it could be something else but i dont no how to tell.
if the other engine is quiter i can put that head into but i dont want it if its just the same
any help welcome
Thanks Lee

it looks like the second one but it is a 2.0 and it does not say ST on the top,
any idea why it would be slower if its just the same engine?

The ST170 engine has an Alloy head and VVT
The Zetec is a cast iron engine and has no VVT
Duratec Engine is fitted, MS2 Extra V3 is assembled and tested, engine running, car now built. IVA passed 26/02/2016

All the Zetec E's have alloy heads and cast iron blocks, be they blacktop, silvertop or ST170.
The ST170 engine has variable cam timing, there is a noticeable bulge in the timing belt cover for the variator on the inlet cam pulley. The cam
cover on the ST engine is also different to the standard silvertop:

There's also the Zetec SE/Sigma too, which is designed by Yamaha and is all alluminium and not to be confused with a Duratec.
The SE has no interchangeable parts with any other Zetec Engine!!
Initially in the Zetec E range there were 90, 105 and 115bhp 1800cc versions, with 115 and 130bhp 2 litre engines.
Changing the cams on the 130bhp will get you about 160bhp.
Lots more info on the Burton Power Website
