Best way to make alloy look like new?
Can anyone tell me the best thing to use to clean up alloy parts such as gearbox, diff etc. Thanks

It will not make it look like new but when I cleaned an old very grubby RV8 engine including the heads I left in a big bucket of drain cleaner
overnight.
It ends up with a shotblast type finish, very dull but great if you want to finish off by painting silver.
Otherwise its just hard work with a scrappers and wire brushes I,m afraid, unless you have lots of compressed air then a blasting with soda will work
well.
In the first instance try soaking in Jizer or gunk for a few hours then a steam clean prefered or pressure washer.
Lots of hand car washes around here offer engine steam cleaning for £20, I,d offer them £10 and drop it off
