Help with filling up coolant system

I had my coolant system filled for a while but noticed a small leak on a join on the bottom hose. I un clipped the hose and drains the fluid from it.which emptied the header tank.
I ran the engine for a while yesterday and topped up the header tank, but the top she warmed up straight away and the rad, bottom hose and water in the header tank didnt warm up? It was running for a while too. One thing I noticed was the header tank didn't seem to take as much to fill it as what came out when I drained it.but after a few minutes running the engine it expanded and was escaping through the overflow.
Do I simply need to run it for longer to get it warmed up? And it sounds like I may have slightly over filled the system?

Sounds to me as if you have got an air lock in it somewhere, may need to drain and refill. HTH Ray

To make a car go faster, just add lightness. Colin Chapman - OR - fit a bigger engine. Chippy
