So what temp is best for performance then ?

High cylinder temperature is best for efficiency and power BUT is limited by pre-ignition/knock and the temperatures the materials in the engine is made of.

Ideally for maximum power you would want the incoming air and cylinder head relatively cool but the cylinder liners as hot as the pistons and piston rings. will.tolerate.

A few engines have been built with the cold coolant entering through the top of the engine and hot coolant exiting from the bottom in an attempt to maximising both combustion and cycle efficiencies but it brings too many potential problems and demands a bigger power sapping water pump.

Depends entirely on the design of the fan and ducting.
