Westy Ratio Help - Suggestions Please
Evening all,
I'm pretty pants went it comes to ratios etc so im open to all options/opinions regarding my build.
I have a YB Cosworth Lump which will be coupled to a T5 gearbox. I have a 3.14 diff which im going to sell and purchase a LSD. What would be the best
ratio diff to try and get bearing in mind i want to put some big alloys on it which leads me onto another question, whats sensible size wheels can be
used to fill the arches?
I suppose i should add that the Westy is going to be a bit of a road toy, is not going to see the track that often so it need to be drivable if that
makes sense?
Cheers Chris

For the diff ratio if using ford lsd its 3.62 and 3.92 i think. Try this gearcalc , input wheel tyre sizes diff ratios choose gearbox t5 from the
list

Using the Cossy I would stick with the 3.14 and get an LSD fitted to it. I have the V6 Cossy and am fitting a 3.14 with after market LSD, because the
3.62 LSD just is not long enough. HTH Ray

Let me assure you, you don't need a 3.14 with that gearbox.
The 3.9 is an option but with the Cossy torque a 3.6 will be good for 1st 2nd and 3rd by then you'll be going quick, 4th will take you to any
speed quickly and 5 will be a long cruise gear.

all the rwd sierra cossie's uesd a T5 with a 3.64 LSD (7.5" ) as standard
so you shouldn't be far off the mark with a 3.62 diff for road use - it'll depend a little on your tyre size but you can always go up or
down a size/profile for the fine tunning
the standard cossie's use 205/50 R15 tyres - so that'll give you a benchmark
e.g. a 245/45 R16 would be effectivly 7% higher geared than the origonal cossie, but a 185/60 R13 would be ~6% lower geared and so on...

Whats the norm with regards to wheel size for a 7 or isn't there?

not really a normal for a seven as such - most are between 13" and 15" wheels but with all kinds of widths and tyre sizes
I think most of the westfield's use similar sizes but I've no idea what they are
(might be worth asking some of the guys on the westie forum, I know a few of them have YB engines as well)
the ones I do know are the dax's, but they are generaly much bigger. the wide rear arch option is just big enough for 9.5" - 10"
wide rims - some folk run as big as 255/40 R17's (mine are 'only' 245/45 R15)
