Gearbox work

Hi all, started rebuilding my locost engine, going to be my winter project. Starting with the gearbox as it doesn't need any work, just a good clean. When it came out of the donor it drove fine, so really all I want to know is how best to get it looking mint?

Here are some photos of what it looks like at the moment:

It's been cleaned in petrol and jet washed.

But really it isn't clean enough for me. I want it looking like new really. Thought about painting it silver. I have read hammerite will be ok, so if I was to spray it, what would need to be done in terms of prep?? Just sand it and spray? I don't want to take it apart really as it is all in working order and if I mess about with it it's not going to be the same.

Any advice would be great.

Cheers, Rob

A wire brush tool in a drill would buff the casing up nicely, or pay to have it shot/bead blasted.
