Zetec 1800 vs 2000
Hello All,
I am considering the engine choice for a Westfield I have a bog standard 2.0 silver top that has done 78000 miles. For this install I will need to
source induction system (i.e. throttle bodies, manifold etc) clutch kit, release bearing etc.
I am also looking at a 1800 silver top Zetec with 2.0 litre cams and all the gubbins to drop straight into the car including exhaust.
I think the 1800 will give me better acceleration, than a high top end - I like that; where as the 2.0 litre will give me better top end
performance.
My dilemma is the overall power out put difference from the two engines and driveability, and may be future upgrades. Do I stick with the 2.0 litre
engine and go down this route, or drop in the 1800 and keep the 2.0 litre for when more funds are available and then drop in the 2.0 litre.
The car will be mainly for track days and little road use.

I initially had an old and worn out 1.8 blacktop [with 1.8 cams] and now have a low mileage 2.0 blacktop. Both used the same induciton and exhaust and
there wasn't a massive difference between them.
The 2.0 had more grunt but the 1.8 was sweeter to rev.
If I had to replace the engine again I'd have no issues with getting a 1.8.

Having driven the same car with both an 1800 (with 2ltr cams) and 2000, i'd have the 2000 every time.
Its much torqier, and has a generally better feeling of oomph. Not a technical answer, but thats my opinion!

had a 1.8 silvertop before. Now have a 2.0 BT (on newman cams, so not a fair comparison)
Basically BT has loads more bottom end, even on PH3 cams. very driveable all through the rev range. You can still rev it lots, but there's less
need to =D

1.8 will give up to 150 bhp with cams the 2 litre aroung 165. if you use the 2 litrw fit the 1.8 flywheel as it is a lot lighter

I've got the 1.8 blacktop and around track it feels a bit gutless! No replacement for displacement but then again mine is only 115bhp at
wheels...

As Austin man says, this is also important. I have a very light flywheel, this makes a big diiference.
PS. 2.0BT + PH3 newman cams + weber alpha 45s + free flowing exhaust = 178hp on the rollers

I also had a very light flywheel from a cvh on my 1.8 and 2.0 - about 6.5Kg iirc.
