sierra starter

hi,newbie here
I am slowing progressing with my winter build.Fitting a k series onto a type9 box.Just wondering if I need to trim anything off the spacer I bought from caterham, have already taken the grinder to the block. As it seems like it will engage on the leading edge of the teeth, should it mesh further into the ring gear. The spacer is made for their starter motor but thats out of my price range so a sierra one is to be used,
has anyone had do any trimming of the spacer.
Thanks in advance

Shouldn't mesh at all untill you apply power to the solenoid, so sounds as though you need a spacer under the starter motor to move it away from the ring gear. You should also check that the pinion meshes fully with the ring gear once its fully extended. HTH Ray
