Raw striker diff
Does anyone know whether it matters if a 7" or 7.5" diff is used on a striker?
Going to try and pick up a 3.91 or 3.92 diff to use.
Thoughts on LSD v NON-LSD?
Cheers
Mike

Hi
my old striker was a 7in diff so would check before as i do not think the 7.5 was fitted to them, also i would go for the lsd if the track is where
your going, if not i would not bother.

Yeah, unless spec'd otherwise from the factory, it will be a 7".

There are quite a few different set up with the strikers depending n use. The old ones used trailing arm real sus which is still a god set up.
I have what is pretty much a T150. I have a 7" non LED with rear IRS and was told by quite a few people that this is the best set up for less
than 200bhp.
so if tour aiming above 200 when i would suggest LSD.otherwise don't bother.
I don't know of any running a 7.5"diff.

Track days ARE the best thing since sliced bread, until I get a supercharger that is!

The IRS striker uses the 7" diff. The 7.5" is wider across the mounting points so will not fit without chassis modifications. It's
also quite a bit heavier and really not necessary for such a light car.

Would you trust a diff from eBay?

Are you going down a donor or new components or Q plate route?

Planning on going new reg route.
I understand that there is not too much focus on the components providing they look new.
New diffs are pretty expensive.
I am going new zetec, bgh gearbox, new steering components, braking and chassis etc.

Sounds identical to my plan!
I have one diff I bought off ebay for about £20, seemed ok, but mainly bought it for trying out how it would fit etc. I have no idea if it works
under load. I have picked up a full sierra too, not really for donor parts as such, more for an exhange gearbox, (or places like BGH etc add
surcharges) I also know it all works.

Seen this one

Thoughts?
Recon diffs can be picked up for £400 or one from raw £200

Pretty sure the 3.92 diff isnt the rarer ones, and ok if you want a tourer/crusier but may lead to quite long ratios.
3.14 are the sort after ones IIRC, better acceleration but lower top end.
I think the 2 I have a re 3.6 and 3.9, so I may use mine to play around with what feels best on the road.
If your in no rush then shop around, but if you get a knowledgeable DVLA person (unlikey i know) you will want a (convincing) reciept
for the 'new' Diff!

It is my understanding that a lower ratio ie 3.14 gives better top end and MPG opposed to higher ratio ie 3.91 gives better acceleration.

Oh, maybe the 3.14 is popular for the bike engines to control their acceleration and lower revs for cruising then...!
