Vauxhaul XE to MT75 box - how
Hello all,
Im new to the locost building scene and currently doing research.
Currently got H-reg 2.0l Sierra donor. Dead DOHC engine, good MT75 box. Just sourced Astra GTE for the 2.0 XE engine.
Does anyone know how to mate the MT75 to the XE engine. Ive seen details for fitting to Type 9 but nothing about mating to a MT75.
If no data available, does anyone fancy swapping MT75 for a good type 9 (ive heard there are different type 9's available?).
Thanks for your help,
Darren W

the mt75 has an integral bellhousing in the gear casing's casting, so you'd have to machine the mounting face back and make an adapter if
you wanted to use it. I'd suggest swapping it or selling it to buy a type 9 as you said. The alternative is source a 1.8 manta or carlton as the
gearbox from one of them will bolt straight up.
Ned.
different type 9's. all 4 pot type9's are the same, with the exception of the 4wd version's which aren't suitabe due to the
integral transfer assembly etc. type9's 2wd v6 cars eg xr4i, 2.8i capri (quite rare anyway) have a longer input shaft and hence a longer
bellhousing. this box has a longer first gear and is preferred by caterham owners, but is hard to come by. most people use a standard type 9. if
you're that worried about gear ratio's you can get an upgrade kit from the likes of tranx or quaife...

Thanks Ned,
Quick response is impressive.
You have confirmed what my limited research seemed to suggest.
If i use Manta or Omega (which would suit my budget - no need for new bellhousing) do you know what clutch to use?
Several people talk about the omega box not being very strong. Iam intending to fit twin 45's, cavalier dizzy etc but with no internal mods. I
guess power will be good but not silly. Does anyone have experience of this box ref life etc.
Is it possible to alter XE sump? I know there are some threads available - i'll do a search.
Regards,
Darren.

The manta box will be pushed to it's limit, not sure how long it'll last when abused. But like anything, look after it and it might be
ok.
I'm gonna hopefully use a manta box, till it dies.
XE sump is ally, which makes it tricky to modify, most people either buy a new shortened one or get a 8v sump which is steel and can be modified with
ease.
P.S. i'm aiming for around 200bhp

Darren,
with the cav dizzy and 45's you're probably looking at around 170-180bhp.
as Ben says, the xe sump is ally, so could be modded if you can or have access to tig. easier to just get an 8v one and mig it.

Don't know if it's any use but I seem to remember someone mentioning recently a company that would remove (by machining) the MT75
bellhousing all-together so that a bolt on bell-housing could be fitted in it's place.
Anyone got any details?
Cheers,
James

I think that might have been BGH Geartech, though not sure it's cost effective and don't know that an Xe - type 9 bellhousing would fit
an mt75 even after the work was done as the mounting hole centres might be out. It could be done but not worth the effort imho

It might be cheaper than what it would cost to have the bell housing ground down to get stronger internals for a type 9 from quaife or TranX.
