Wow thats ruined...

What engine is it? I suspect it would be cheaper to get another head from somewhere!

No thats for a new one,

i doubt id get one from a scrap yard, i would have thought that the scrappys would take those engines out as soon as the got them and sell them at a premium.

doubt they would just sell me the head

There will ALWAYS be a scrappy somewhere that will sell just the head, or a potentially scrap engine with a good head, you have just got to try looking. What about a bent car with a damaged block, but the head would still be good.

The first pinto injection lump I ever fitted in a car I got for £50 cos the engine was knocking (someone had fitted it by jacking under the sump and crushed the sump pan up making the oil pick-up pipe contact the crank case, hence the knocking and with the consequent hole in the pick-up pipe hence no oil pressure. chnge the sump and pick-up pipe for nowt and job was a good'un.) The moral of it is, you just got to LOOK and you will find.

If your head bearings are that bad I also wouldn't hold much hope for the bottom end.

I have repaired heads with damaged cam bearings in the past but it is not likely to be cost effective. The firm I worked for used to line bore the bearing caps until they cleaned up oversize and then we metal sprayed the cam journals and ground to fit the head.We used to do a lot of rover 2600 heads as they suffered badly from oil starvation and also repaired a few peugot diesel heads after people overtightened the cam covers breaking the bearing caps in the process.
So there is another option if you cant get a used head but what is the rest of the engine like? the crank may look ok but ideally the rods and journals need to be measured as big ends tend to go out of round if ran with no oil pressure.
