cleaning the block - cup brush?
Dear Collective
So, I'm going to be cleaning up the block of my duratec before it goes in to the car - shiney is good.
I have a wire cup-brush for my air die-grinder and i use it to clean back metal surfaces before welding - it does a lovely job (then I wipe it down
with acetone to be sure it is proper clean of residue).
some of the outer parts (such as rocker cover and cam cover) i can put in the parts washer and leave overnight to get nice and sharp, but my washer
isn't big enough for the block, nor do i want to strip the block down in order to do this.
My thoughts were to just clean it with the cup brush and mild detergent. it should bring out a nice shiny surface.
Any thoughts? I even have an old bath to sit it in when i clean it.

I have used a cup brush on ally and it gives a nice satin finish.
2 tips: Don't put any pressure on the brush, just the weight of the angle grinder, or it will burn or scuff the ally and
keep the brush moving at all times.
You can get nylon cup brushes from Frosts that give an even better finish

Nylon cup brushes? I'll look into that. The die-grinder doesn't have the torque or RPM of my angle grinder, so that may make it a little
safer.

For nylon brushes try Toolstation or Screwfix
