XE20LET non start advice.

Here is a cunundrum for the collective!!

A friend of mine has an astra coupe turbo.

we have checked that it has a spark and seems to be getting fuel but won't start.

we can get it started on easy start and it runs like a bag of crud.

does easy start self detonate and therefore allow an incorrectly timed car start and run for 15mins badly?

Surly if it even runs badly then all sensors should be working?

This started after my mate decided to start track preping it.

any thoughts or advice?

When you say he has "started track preping it"

What has he done ?
Has he started fiddling with any wiring etc ?

Have you tested for a spark and to see if your getting fuel in each cylinder ?
Fuel pump priming ok ?

I am being polite. My mate is not very good with cars and the mechanics. He thinks the problem happened when he took a pair of scissors to the loom, he cut the air bag wiring!!

Since then The wires have been reconnected and the air bag turned off via OBD2. Unfortunatly though we cant read the codes from the ECU.

He has Identical cars. One for track, crashed and molestered. The other is untouched for the road and working fine. This means that he has the luxury of swapping bits across the two cars.

Due to the swapping we have worked out that the ECU, injectors, fuel pump, trottle body all work.

I am now the third mate to have a look. Others, quite compitent, have checked the spark and fuel. I would like to think they have checked all the cylinders. . .

I know this is a bonkers question but what would stop the car from starting but once started would make it run bad?

Fuel quality is good.

Dont know if it responded to revs nor can I give any more info on 'bad' as I was not there.

Temp gauge is all over the place and aparently the fan kicks straight in sometimes. I have already requested he swaps them sensors over. He will do that tomorrow

Any other thoughts?

Individual or paired on the XE20LET. Its hard for him to check sparks on his own. Thats a weekend job. Again though if it runs then why dont it start?

if its an astra coupe i would think its a z20let as im not sure a xe20let even exists the mk3astra ones were c20let and the mk4 astra are z20let and the mk5 vxr is z20leh

it its the zlet i would guess at the coil pack as its 4 seperate coils just moulded into one unit so you can loose one coil still and have you checked the plugs to see if they are all firing and what the mixtures look like as i would say three will be a proper brown colour and one will be black

if you loose one coil the engine wont start but will run once started just like a bag of shit
