1600 Pinto

Hi there,
Im going to be fitting Twin Dcoes to my 1600 pinto.
It currently has been ported,and has a 2 liter cam and followers and has been rolling road tested and is pushing out 95bhp.
Can anyone reccomend me which jets i should be using in the carbs? Also what do i need to do about the vacumm advance on the distributor?

The best way to deliver the spark to a modified engine is to use a Megajolt, Edis and twin coil in place of the distributor as this can be mapped to suit any engine modifications and removes much of the roughness that can occur with modified engines. I bought a Megajolt setup for my Pinto a while ago but it's sadly gathering dust as I'm not sure when i'll get the time to fit it though as far as i can make out my engine is pretty standard just with a synchronous downdraught (2 litre Capri carb) in place of the Sierra progressive one.

Usually the rolling road guy will suggest increasing or decreasing carb jet sizes according to how the car performs and breathes on the rolling road.

Is that 95bhp measured at the rear wheels or estimated at the flywheel ?

Must say thats jolly good power for the spec.
TBH unless you need twin 40's to avoid cutting a hole in the bonnet, then I wouldn't bother, they're unlikely to give you any extra power as they don't flow any more air than the 32/36dgav (infact the twin choke flows slightly more air) Thus twin choke and inlet from the 2.0L and 16GT get the job done, and a 3.0L capri carb gets the job done up to 140bhp on 2.1's.
If you really want side drafts and given the noise they make who wouldn't then motorbike carbs look like the way to go. They are better fuel consumption wise so won't eat a hole in your bank account, fit under the bonnet, sound good, flow enough air and best of all cheaper than '40's.
As with your other poster Megajolt is a no brainer. especially with the webbers as there is no way to operate the vac advance properly, though with '40's its tricky mounting a throttle potentiometer.

I wouldn't bother mate, I got 94 with mega jolt bad bike carbs and mild race/road cam. So you're doing well, I'd do a duratec for horses or zetec for ease when you want to go more than the pinto can offer.
