I tried to order a pump for my pinto then i was told there are loads of types (power steering, age of engine etc) I know nothing about the engine as i got it on its own so how does one tell which pump i can get? All i know is its a 2.0 litre Pinto with 205 block

Just say an '89 2.0i SOHC.

To be honest though- I'm pretty sure any will fit. I've just fitted an alloy one from a 1.6Capri to my 2.0i Sierra.

Atb,
James

I think james is probably right, if you ask for a later model one it should fit. I bought an old capri 2.0 Pinto for the carb and other spares and the water pump looked the same as the one already fitted to my 89 2.0L Saphire Pinto.
