Fitting mx5 engine in locost

Is there anyone who has fitted a mk1 mx5 engine to a locost?
Is there anything I should know or do to make it any easier to fit

Cheers Steve

Yes - I did it as has a guy called Keith who works for Flyin' Miata in the States. Search on-line for his story but he also posts on here from time to time.

Have a look at my photo archive 1st.

Things I did to make it easier;

1) chopped large lumps off the tail of the 5 speed Mazda gearbox and created a new mounting point.
2) reduced the depth of the standard aluminium sump and added some extra volume.
3) got rid of the standard airbox and trunking to the throttle body - I made some new pipe to mount the MAF and fitted an aftermarket 'cone' shaped filter

Other than that it fitted quite well. Standard ECU and sensors etc... It's still running like this as I built a Megasquirt but haven't fitted it yet

U2U if you need anything else.

EDIT; This is Keith Tanner of Flyin' Miata

Seems to be out of print, so therefore silly money at the moment, but if you can track it down Keith Tanners book will be very helpful

Saturn Sports cars did a build manual for an MX5 version of the Haynes roadster (you don't mention which "Locost" you are planning (Escort Mk2 based Champion version or Sierra based Gibbs version) it's still kicking about on the web as a pdf.

A guy in New Zeland did this and had a good website on it but at the moment I can't seen to find it - maybe a google search
