what age does an engine need to be to have a catalyst.

i think its 95 for it to be required by law but some cars have them earlier
dont hold me to that tho

I thought it was mid 'J' plate, around 91

yes it was law jan 91 but some were made before that and registered after

i'm near sure 95'96 as well thats when i started servin my time and some of the cars in for their first yearly service didnt have cats (98% sure)

Plenty of manufacturers fitted catalysts before legally required, but 96 is when the law came in
