Zetec and cam lobe wear.

How much wear is acceptable on Zetec cam lobes?

I bought a supposed 70k mile zetec from a scrapyard and have just started looking at it. As said in another thread will have new shells and con rod bolts on the bottom end.

Looking at the top end the tip of the cam lobes dont feel completely 100% smooth at the tip of the lobes. You can just feel wear with your finger at the end of the lobe.

Would this be normal for a 70K mile one. Should I pull the head off and go through everything or just stick it in and use it??

Not sure about the wear but on mine you could not feel any wear on the cam lobes and the bores still had honing marks and mine was pulled from a 100k mondeo which had no engine work other than regular servicing.

False alarm - mumpty thread alert.

Just been out to the garage again and rubbed the wear on either side of the cab lobe tip. I rubbed harder this time and it came off. No noticeable wear.

It was a deposit. Not sure if that is good anyway but the camshaft looked as good as new when I rubbed it off.
