GSXR oil level - much lower after starting for first time?

I put 3 litres of oil in my engine until the leve was right in the sight glass. After starting for the first time in months (I only ran it for a few seconds) the oil leve ll is much lower. I had changed filter and extended cooler pipes so some volume all be lost there but I topped it up with almost another litre and its still not up to the sight glass.

Will there be oil stored elsewhere in the engine that just stays there? I guess I should just top it up to correct sight glass level. Is there any danger in adding a bit extra oil so it is to top of sight glass or can this be bad for the engine?

Cheers

the oil will of been circulated round the engine and will stay in some places ie on the cams and around there just top it up to the correct level and run it for a 10 minutes then leave it for 20-30minutes and let it cool down and then check it again and if its lower than the correct level top it up.

the level marker is correct for when there is oil in all the places needed.

extended oil cooler pipes will increase the amount of oil needed as these need to be full and having a new oil filter will mean the oil filter will need to fill up which it will do after a couple of minutes of the engine running.

real old school mechanics and engine builders will fill the oil filter up with new oil before screwing onto the engine as back in there day oil pumps wern't as good and worked better when oil the oil lines where full with very little air in.

Less weight more speed, more power more speed

If in doubt, give it a clout

Totally normal behaviour.

NB: If the oil level continues to fall it usually means that No.3 rod has made an exit, just to the side of the balancer shaft. This situation will normally require attention before proceeding to add yet more oil.

Assuming you've got a baffle plate above the sump pickup, and are heading for the track, you need to overfill the sump anyway. Difficult to put in too much, what the GSXR doesn't need it's totally happy throwing it out of the breather. Lots of people on here with far more knowledge than me will be able to tell you how much to fill it, they'll be along soon I'm sure. In the absence of such authority, a quick search should help. You're looking for mentions of bubbles in sight glasses when running.

The GSXR isn't the most tolerant of low oil level and slick-shod G-loadings. On the road, no problems though, whatsoever.
