Engine running on 3 cylinders
Hello,
I have a problem with my 2.0 sohc EFI pinto.
It is running on 3 cyl.
Cyl number 1 does not fire.
I checked the spark, and it works.
I changed injector 1 with 2, and still the same.
So, could it be the electric connection of injector 1?
How can i check that injector 1 is working properly ?
Thanks for advices,
Gerardo

(1) Check the spark plug condition anf exchange it with a new plug or the plug from another cylinder.
(2) Do a compression test less than £15 should find a compression gauge with 18mm fitting required for a Pinto
(3) You can check the injector is getting a signal with a Noid light --- really just a 12v LED you plug in to the injector lead.can either make
one or buy set very cheaply off eBay
(4) Check the inlet manifold nuts are tight.
If none of the above it points to an ignition fault unless you have altered something recently such as adjusting the valve clearances.

Take the faulty injector out keeping it connected, put the end in a clear bottle, turn your engine over if you get no fuel coming through try another
injector, plug no 2 injector as no. 1 turn over again, if you get fuel no.1 injector is the fault if its the same as 1st injector (no fuel) it's
electrical. Simple & FREE. Good luck!

Problem solved !!!!!
I don't know why, but it's fine again.
I dissassemble the injection rail, the injectors again this afternoon and it's OK.
Maybe a sticky or dirty injector.
Thanks for your advices,
Gerardo

I had a similarly intermittent 3 cyl misfire once, after checking everything and thinking I'd found it it turned out to be a crack in the
insulator of one (1 month old) spark plug. Barely visible but when it got damp out it would track internally. No visible tracking when running, no
resistance problem (initially) and months of coming and going. It's now the first thing I check!
