MT 75 Gearbox

Gents , I have an MT 75, 5 speed gearbox which was mated to my 2.0 pinto ( ex transit ). My issue is that the Bell housing looks very big for the Locost chassis and it also looks too short to provide the correct gear lever position. Should I be looking for a type 9 box instead or do i only need some form of gear lever extension for my MT 75.

The Sierra/Granada mt75 is about the most unloved rwd box you can get. The transit box will have even lower ratios and as you have found the gear stick is in an even worse place than either the sierra mt75 or the T9.

I've got a MT75 gearbox fitted. You can cut and lengthen the gear lever cradle and rod to move it back, mine now comes out on the flat of the tunnel and is perfect. I think there may be a pic in my archive.

Not too sure why it should be call "the most unloved rwd...Plenty of Westfield/MK etc running round with them. Unless you are getting a modded type 9 with different ratios I can't see a problem using a MT75.

Just for info, the mt75 is a stronger box than a type 9.

We have a Westfield in the workshop at the moment, we are fitting a 2.0 turbo zetec (300bhp). The was already fitted with an mt75.

Yes it's stronger is even said to be lighter and I used one in my locost but the early transit mt75 is nothing like the sierra box.

To back up my claims of being unloved, just check out the prices on eBay. The T9 will fetch £150 all day long and the mt75 around half that unless you find some one in need.

I have one for sale if any one is interested £100 and I will chuck in a zetec 240mm flywheel and a matching new clutch along with a new thrust bearing.
