zetec 2.0l added catch tank, oil loss??

Hi all,

i have added a catch tank at the weekend, took of crankcase breather blank plate, fitted new plate with 3/8" bore tube to catch tank, allso fitted rocker cover breather to tank as well, done 100+ miles in her, bottle over half full (0.5l bottle). all the oil is comming from the crankcase breather, is my engine nackered or is it something else im not understanding ??

have done various searches on here and google etc, different opinions on blanking crank breather etc.

Mine breathes into the filter back plate but I've never noticed anything coming out of the breather pipe.

Sound like you have not fitted a oil separator like the original one, the oil is splashing up of the crank and getting blown down the pipe to the catch tank.

Use the original separator off the side of the engine and remove the spring and disk from inside the fitting that the breather pipe attaches too,my car is done like this and the cam shaft cover is fitted with a small breather filter and only ever has a bit of condensation in the breather tank.Black top and silver top breathers are the same.

The Blacktop one works correctly where as the silvertop one never seemed to. Fit the Blacktop one and connect it to a catch tank and forget about it. Don't start gutting it.

Been using the Silvertop separator on mine now for almost 12 years on both Silvertop and Blacktop engines. I have removed the valve and piped it into a screen wash type bottle. The breather in the cam cover is piped into the same bottle. With used and new engines there has never been an issue.

My old cross flow was piped in exactly the same way using the standard x-flow seperator with the valve removed for 14 years, again never a problem.
