oil catchtank plumbing question
I have added a container (not a specific oil catchtank) to my crossflow, that has a pipe from the rocker box and a separate pipe from the crankcase
breather that go into a plastic container
Problem is, that even on a small 15 min run, I seem to be venting a lot of oil in to the container, and its not mist!!
any ideas please!!

After googling, catchtanks, I think mine is very low in the car, so question no2 is does the height of the tank, in relation to the engine make any
difference ??

Needs to be high
Pipes work better with a simple plate baffle inside rocker and separator on the block
You can vent block to rocker with T piece high in the pipe and send that to catch tank with vent filter on other side
The sump and rocker can build pressure so need to vent out your system of rocker and block to unvented tank will build pressure until it spurts out
the dipstick tube

Hi
The 'plumbing' for a catch tank for a crossflow in a 'seven' is normally:-
- Crankcase breather to rocker cover.
- Rocker cover to catch tank.
Because when you're 'making progress' you can end up with much more than mist coming out of the crankcase breather, so you put
that back where you want it - the top of the engine.
You then just vent the crancase to the catch tank and this deals with any Mist.
Now in a minute somebody will doubtlessly come along and say that if the volume of oil coming out of the crancase is that much you've got a
problem etc etc - but the above is how most folks end up, it's simple and it works.

The advantage of having a dry sump system in a competition car. Block off the breather, dip stick tube and take the rocker cover vent straight to the
catch tank. However, what Jim said about having too much oil coming out could to some extent be true. Have you considered that you may have too much
oil going to the rocker gear because a standard set up actually pumps far too much oil up to the top and my practice it to block the feed hole and
redrill to 1/8". This is more than adequate and saves a lot of oil from sloshing around the top end........

I've tried every without venting the crank case to the rocker and I still get oil out the dip stick tube....

I mounted mine low down to start with it filled up very quickly!
Lifted it higher, about level with the rocker cover and it has never filled up again.

Crank case vent chucks out oil under power - worse up hill - so pipe it into rocker cover.
Take a separate pipe off rocker to vent tank.
Used this all year - no problems.
