Zetec - type9 clutch
Its probably been posted a million times but
Doing a cvh to zetec conversion
Already running t9 5spd
Have 1.8 flywheel and also a late cvh one with cps marks on it
I have read so many conflicting setups ime really unsure which way to go
Some say cvh fw drilled for crank bolts and use xr3 220mm cover with sierra plate
Some say use zetec fw with escort/ mondeo clutch kit
Some say above gives a rubbish pedal
So e say drill zetec fw for pinto clutch and use that
What do you say ?

I have a silvertop 2 litre zetec with an 1800 zetec flywheel with an early mondeo 220 mm clutch and capri 1300/1600 release bearing. Works fine for
me, no drilling.

Is the pedal travel ok - ive read that the difference in pivot points between fwd and rwd make the zetec clutch feel like an old mini
3 inch of travel and like an on off switch

Its only wrong if it doesn't work. All of them have been done and do work as well as other combinations.
Standard zetec is easy and only the longer thrust bearing being a little harder to find.

On my MK i found the perfect clutch was all about the cable being correct.
I had a couple of ford adjustable cables to begin with, one from a cortina and one from a capri. Both gave a heavy pedal and not very much actual
feel, as said earlier an on/off type of pedal.
After some painfull testing i now have a cable for ford fitment made by Autoparts part number BCC 1148 and the pedal travel is fine, nice and smooth
throw with the only real difference being the visible cable at full extend is about 3/4" shorter than the previous cables.
I did try and replicate the cable extend distance by using an old cable and spacing out by 3/4" but it just doesnt seem to work that way, it
seems in my case 1148 is the perfect length.

And what set up are you using with that cable? The Standard 1.8 zetec flywheel and 220 clutch with the Capri release bearing?

Hi,
ive used the standard cvh flywheel, (drilled out holes,) clutch and pressure plate, standard cable, was ok for the last couple of years, have done
some more work on engine tunning this summer, (differenr ecu, bike carbs tune up with afr meter), it now slips if I floor it from lights etc, not sure
why yet, engine out in winter.

My worry with the cvh fw is whether the clutches will cope
I remember when rs turbos were 'in' anything modified would slip as soon as it boosted-even with oe clutches
We eventually refused to fit one in anything other than standard cars

Key number for the cable is 1148 in my case, i think 1148 may actually be the mm's in length, i am messing around with the car over the weekend
(clean up,thinking of selling in the spring) so i will take the cable measure and also measure the open cable.

Cable length
OK managed to get out in the garage and grab a couple of clutch cables.
The top cable is the size i am currently using giving a very smooth clutch operation with an 1800 zetec flywheel + early mondeo 220mm clutch and the
capri 1300/1600 1973 release bearing.
Cable part number is BCC1148 or can be QCC 1148 and measures 1100mm in totoal length. The exposed cable length is 140mm (5.5"
This compared to the QCC1010 cable which is 1200mm in length with 190mm exposed cable (7.5"that works but gives a stiff clutch (on or off)
