4xv R1 problem oil starved head

So the chap I sold my MNR to rang me today and said it was making "a bit of a tick"
As he is local I told him to nip it round and I'd have a listen, when he arrived it was immediately apparent something was very wrong.

I quickly pulled the camcover off and was greeted with a lot of swarf, I decided to dig deeper so removed the camshafts and there in a right old mess.
There is also a couple of smashed valve buckets .

The interesting thing is that the head itself was dry, it looked like it hadn't seen oil for quite a while, the car was still showing oil pressure on the ETB dash when he arrived at mine, the pressure is taken from the large bolt that holds the oil cooler in place.

Any suggestions chaps?

there's normally a restrictor in the head gasket on bike engines. a blockage there won't show as an oil pressure drop (more likely a slight increase). would be my first check..?
