ZX6R Carbs - Power Limit

While toying with my 'cheap' duratec conversion that I can build on later I've been thinking I could save money by going carbed and using my exisiting megajolt. I've been lookign at 1000CC bike carbs but they all seem to be good money.

Looking at Jenvey's webiste, they have a throttle body sizing guide - http://www.jenvey.co.uk/jenvey/throttle-body-selection-with-jenvey-dynamics.

Currently I have ZX6R carbs on my pinto, which have a 37mm choke. Looking at Jenveys Guidance this chole size is good for between 150-180BHP - which would seem to be plenty for a standard Duratec.

Looking around I have found a Zetec running supposedly 174BHP on ZX6r and megajolt.

This seems to suggest that my ZX6R carbs would be suitable as a starter for a later EFI upgrade. In terms of the fuel pump I have the ZX6r pump, which is the same as the ZX9r pump which was good for 144BHP. I guess there is a little margin on this but I would have to see how I got on tuning.

Anybody running ZX6Rs willing to share how much power they have made for comparison?

Have a chat to the guys at Chester Sportscars, they do a range of Bike Carb kits for various engines including the Duratech IIRC and use the AX6R carbs a lot.

I had their ZX6R carb kit (with megajolt Jnr) on my 2.0l Silvertop and that was advertised as making 165hp in high torque tune (they did a high power tune as well by messing around with the ignition map).

Worth asking if they will sell you the manifold, re-jet your carb and send/sell you a map for the megajolt as a package. Worth a phone call.

the general rule of thumb I've been following is ZX6R carb's for 1.6 - 1.8 engines or 2.0 with no mods - and ZX9R for anything more than that...
(not sure where I got that from...)

I've heard of 160 to 170 on ZX9R's but nothing near that with the ZX6R carb's

ZX6R's are fine for a 2.0 in standard tune as said. Chester Sports Cars sell loads of these. There's no reason you could not slap these on your 2.0 and have it running nicely.
I agree with everything mcerd1 says though, if you plan on tuning, carbs, headwork etc then ZX9R carbs are the better option.

I made 160 BHP at the wheels with my 2.0 silvertop on ZX9R carbs on Bogg Bros rollers, thats with headwork, compression raise and Newman cams.

Thanks for the feedback everyone - that has saved me a few quid

Long term plan is to go EFI, but if I stick with carbs now I will be able to reuse my fuel tank, megajolt etc.
