5cyl Focus ST engine/ Volvo T5 - help with dimensions
All,
I am after some help with dimensions for this engine for which I am considering an engine swap.
I could do with knowing:
- length of block in mm
- height of block in mm
- width of block in mm (ignore intake manifold - include turbo manifold)
- total length of engine and gearbox assembly (only applicable to Focus ST/RS Mk2/Volvo C30 (I think the older T5s in volvos run a different box)
I intend to run the gearbox from the Focus RS Mk2 if at all possible as it has a Quaife LSD as standard.
any information gratefully received as I am finding it quite hard to come by on this engine.

aftermarket ECU
also, if anyone can point me to any build threads either locost or on other car forums with this engine fitted I would be most interested to read
them.
particularly any that are running the engine with full aftermarket Engine Management - Megasquirt/Emerald/Motec/Pectel?

Sadly can't help with the dims as my focus went a few months ago however they are a fair size and heavy too. They do have their issues too
I'm sure your aware of the cylinder liner issues?
Vag 1.8 bam engine smaller and same power too.
Don't get me wrong I loved the 5 cyl growl in the focus and would love one in a kit. But can't help think there would be better options.

t4 ? i know of a sylva riot with a t4

guy on t5d5 has a kitcar with a t5 at the back ....its a bit bigger than an elise type thing...

If it will physically fit then I will be using one of the latest 2010 engines from a Focus RS Mk2 (JZDA), in which they fixed the liners
(they're thicker), and they have a revised turbo (better for high power).
This won't be a totally locost build as such, but the information available on this forum though is invaluable.
The power target is 400bhp, so it actually one of the lighter ways to get to that figure with reliability (the latest special edition RS500 Mk2 Focus
RS's were 345bhp from the factory with cats). There are modded cars around with 500bhp.
The other contenders are Audi turbo (using elise gearbox). Or supercharged (or twin charged!) Honda K20 (civic gearbox). In both cases I don't
have as much confidence in the drivetrain.
However if the measurements say the T5 won't fit then it will probably be the Honda option.
