Low profile pinto cam cover breather

When it was built my pinto was stuck onto twin 45s.

The crankcase breather was left with the pcv valve fitted though and just vented to atmosphere though.

I think this maybe the cause or contribute towards the oil weeps I get (and the demented chuffing / chirping i sometimes hear at random times).

So I have purchased a twin entry catch tank, an oil filler cap with a breather and a valveless crankcase fitting to bring it all together with the tank vented to atmosphere.

.....and i can't shut the bonnet because the new filler cap is too tall!

Did any production 2.0 pinto ever come with a cam cover which had a breather fitting to the cover itself as standard or will i have to get something brazed on.

Is there an easy or recognised way to make a deflector for the entrance to the spigot so the oil doesn't get flung up the pipe fittign all the time?

as you say leaving the PCV valve in place isn't a good plan, unless you remove the internals (i.e. the valve itself) and plum it onto a catch tank

none of the OE ford covers have anything better, most folk either splash out on a fancy alloy one or modify the stock one

the first thing most folk seem to do is move the filler to near the back as most se7en's have more height under the bonnet at the back - this way you can gain a few mm depending on the slope of your bonnet

if that's not enough you can add the breather pipe directly to the the back or side of the rocker cover (depending on where you've got space) so that you can use a lower profile filler cap without the breather in it
obviously this involves adding a deflector / splash guard to the new breather location

or you can move the filler onto the back of the cam cover like this:

this is probably one of the neatest ways to do it and should give you plenty of height to use a filler with a breather pipe

I know you have already bought the stuff, but on my pinto xtreme I just pinged the valve out of the valve and that was vented to air (should have been to tank) this way the filler cap didn't need to be changed and the original had to be filed down a bit to stop if hitting the bonnet..

Ok, I thought for best ventilation without pcv I needed to vent both top and bottom ends?

over to someone who knows what they are talking about now I'm afraid!

All I can say is that I didn't have any oil leaks without breathing to top. although having said that the cap kinda breaths it anyway if I remember correctly. there is some mesh in it and I think there is a way to air..

that's good news, re the cooling. I am surprised you needed all that, but hey each car is different. Now running a rV8 I can def put up with oil leakage, but no being too hot..

It got:
Bonnet vents
82C thermostat
Removed return edges on nose cone apertures
Polo rad (forward and up against nose cone)
Spal pulling fan
I have fitted a dual temp fan switch so I can play with operating point to get it to run when i want it to.
