R1 Speed sensor

I'm going to be using a aftermarket clock set up,so not using the standard R1 speed sensor for the clocks.

But have noticed when thinning the loom down the white wire from the speed sensor goes to ECU as well as clocks,
so my question is do I need to retain the speed sensor and wiring and keep it connected to ECU?

Or can I bin it?

A few of us have had some debate about this (well on injection ones anyway). There's nothing that says it's needed by the ECU and they run OK with the speedo sensor disconnected (apart from a warning for no speed sensor signal). I ran my 5vy the way to south of France and didn't really notice anything. However when I reconnected it, there did seem more poke; Just seemed to pick up better.

Two 03 motor that have disconnected the speedo have had different experiences. One disconnected the sensor and had similar results to mine. The other disconnected the feed to the clocks and noticed no change.

Ok thanks

I'll leave it connected now anyway, luckily looked at my gear indicator wiring and that needs a speed sensor input.
