Turbo ZX9 breather
Hi guys, since going turbo on my ZX9 engine, I get some oil blowing out of the 12mm breather on the top of the gearbox, I also have blocked off the
air injection because of turbo so I suspect it has worse breathing than before. I put this down to increased blow by because of the turbo. It's
not a cracked ring land since it did it before I added the forged pistons and when taking out the stock ones they were in great condition.
So I want to add a big 32mm breather to a small cone filter on the rocker cover, Basically add a vertical 32mm short piece of tube to the rocker cover
and put the small filter on this.
However do I route the breather from the top of the gearbox into the side of the 32mm pipe (might end up squirting oil all over the filter since it
will be very close and also be hitting the inside of the tube, making it splash more) or add a 12mm pipe on the rocker cover where the cam sprockets
so that it can drain straight down the cam chain channel and the 32mm pipe should only be venting pressure.
Or is there a better solution?

You need an oil catch tank, then the filter sits on this.
Idealy an oil separator on the gearbox breather so it falls back where it came from, then vent both into the catch tank.

Wouldn't plumbing the gearbox vent into the rocker cover work as an oil separator then add a large vent to the rocker cover to relieve pressure?
The gearbox vent blows out quite a lot of oil, I could probably fill a 500ml bottle in a weekend of driving, hence not really wanting to fill a catch
tank.
Would plumbing the gearbox vent into a 60mmx100mm bottle with a vent on the top allow the oil to be blown out to then fall back down?

It would do but presumably they included a gearbox vent to ensure that oil did not become trapped at the top of the engine.
As you describe should be fine as long as you use large bore tube.
