Zetec silvertop head 1.8 on a 2.0

Hi all,

I just want to make sure, I've looked on here and it seems that the 1.8 head is a straight fit onto the 2.0 except for a slight increase in comp ratio. I fancy dusting down the old die grinder, burrs and rolls and having a bit of a play but the only heads I can find for sale are 1.8s. If they are ok I'll get one.

yes it fits but put the 2 litre cams back in we saw a 10 bhp increase on a turbod 2 litre when the 1.8 head was fitted

Indeed it is a strait fit and if its cheap enough and in good condition a useful upgrade.

But don't waste you time doing much grinding, you will in all probability make it worse. Old heads more often than not did benefit from a bit of DIY but modern heads are so well developed and cast that unless you have tested various combinations of port shape etc on a flow bench the gains can rapidly become losses. About the only worthwhile mods are matching the manifold to the head to avoid steps (don't forget to match the thick gasket as well) and knife edge the casting between the pairs of inlet ports which does help a bit. Otherwise leave it to the experts.

As it happens I can gain use of a flow bench and back in the day I built race winning engines for a now international works team, all I needed to know was if the head would fit, I have no experience of these type of engines, but as a great race engine builder once said " an engine doesn't know who's name is on the rocker box"
