position of fuelpump?
For my Zetec Indy I'm intending to use the fuelpump from a '89 (?) Astra GSI. Does anyone know if this fuel pump should be positioned
below the lowest part of the tank? I have a real nice place for it next to the tank, but then it's about 10 cm above lowest tank level. Would
that be a problem?
Thanks!

At same level as lowest point is Ideal because then they auto self prime when switched on.
Beware of the Goldfish in the tulip mines. The ONLY defence against them is smoking peanut butter sandwiches.

As said the pump is unable to self prime so needs a constant supply of fuel. Also you will need to fit a pre pump filter. The big killer of these
pumps is any rubbish in the petrol as they run very tight clearences, and secondly they use the fuel to self cool themselves. They soon pack up if
starved of fuel.
BTW, nice web site.

Zetec; where did you place your pump? (picture?)
Below the tank feels so vulnerable!

I've put a couple of pics on my archive.
I orginally fitted a ali plate between the two rear chassis rails from where the main floor panel finished going back under the diff to where the
rails start to turn up. I was going to mount the pump on this till I remembered the diff can get hot. Thought this not too bright so made up two new
brackets going from the rear chassis rail to the plate I had first fitted and this is where the pump sits.
You can also see in the pic the pre pump filter which connects to a outlet on the tank bottom just left of the picture.
The pump is still clean after 3000 miles so looks as it's position is out of the normal air flow and not too in danger of damage. That said if
the pump is ECU controled if the engine stops due to damage in the fuel line the pump will cut out after 5 secs.
The post pump filter is a Vauxhall Omega unit fitted in the tranny tunnel, has nice 8mm push fit pipe connections both ends, should last the life of
the car.
