Bike Carb Dilemma....
I have a set of 36mm bike carbs which I had on a 2.0 litre pinto, I am changing to a ST170 engine and am unsure whether 36's are big enough for
that engine. My dilemma is do I sell the carbs and pinto manifold and put the cash towards a bigger set and zetec manifold from Boggs or Danst or just
buy or make a manifold and stick with 36's.... I'm not looking for huge bhp, but enough to enjoy a few track days

What's the diameter of the intake ports on the head?

Hi Ian. To get the most benefit from the engine swap I would be flogging the Pinto setup and going up a size. Loads of choice at 40mm. I've
got a number of sets of main jets you could experiment with.
I take it you are using the standard ECU. If you are changing to an aftermarket ECU then throttle bodies are the way to go.
In answer to the port size question they are 47.5 x 33mm ( according to Danst) so a very good match to 40mm carbs.

I would think you could use the plastic ST170 inlet for carbs, as long as they can be spaced to match.
Otherwise Danst (on here, or used to be) does a wide selection of inlets.....
Have a careful think about what you will do with the VVT. Simplest would be to lock it at 40 degrees or whatever the "best" allround
figure is. Just do not have it switched on/off, not the best solution at all.

I'm intending to use my megajolt for the ignition and the aftermarket ME controller for the vvt as I don't have the original ecu???
I've looked at using the plastic inlet manifold, have to give that some more thought

My silver top with stock internals made 165hp on 636r carbs which I think are either 36 or 37mm. Chestersports cars do a kit with the me controller.
They used to megajolt, then moved to NODIZ and now use Canems I think. All worth a look and similar price around £300.

I ran it on my St170 engine with bike carbs and megajolt in hindsight I wish I had stayed with that setup cos it did run very well
Still the turbo project is nearing completion
I would think £50
Apparently it is no longer supported by mtech but it is fully mapable I just ran the standard map on it cos that worked really well

Have you got the wiring/ connectors with it, cos I've never done anything with vvt engines before, or could you point me in the direction of
what I would need to make my own

It has a full wiring diagram on the instructions disc I do have a vvt servo plug but you will need a cam sensor plug which is just the standard ford
temp sensor plug I think

And you will need shielded cable from cam sensor and from crank sensor I will have a rummage in the garage see if I have any left
