What diff?
No, not the usual ratios Q!
Does anyone know if there is an independent diff, like the Sierra/Freelander/MX5 that will accept a pair of front wheel drive type driveshaft, ie
those with CV joints to allow steering. I know little about of any of those diff's, but wondered, particularly with some of the Ford stuff if
any shared a fitting/spline size with any of their FWD stuff?
I no longer run Furore Products or Furore Cars Ltd, but would still highly recommend them for Acewell dashes, projector headlights, dominator
headlights, indicators, mirrors etc, best prices in the UK! Take a look at http://www.furoreproducts.co.uk/ or find more parts on Ebay, user names
furoreltd & furoreproducts, discounts available for LCB users.
Don't forget Stainless Steel Braided brake hoses, made to your exact requirements in any of around 16 colours.

Was that a separate diff or was it incorporated into the gearbox, I used to work on the things, but for the life of me can't remember
I had wondered about something from a 4 x 4 Panda, or Jiminy, but presumably a bit like rocking horse poo to find one nowadays!

You need to find spline dimensions....
My spitfire has a hybrid rear end. It uses rover 100 driveshafts, plugged into rover/mgf outer CV's (obvious) and currently Subary inner
CV's, but when I used a Triumph diff I used some Volvo inner lobro joints. And I know some people have used a ford escort outer CV.... so there
is loads of interchangability. The same must apply to other shafts/CVs. Where you get the info, I have no idea...
(I cannot claim to be the first to find this stuff, I just pinch other peoples ideas)

"I just pinch other peoples ideas" - precisely why I asked the Q - trying to find CORRECT info appears to be a needle in a haystack job

IIRC the sierra 4x4/cosworth 4x4 had a centre diff in the gearbox that cane out of the side with a prop shaft going forward with a separate front diff
and the the "tradition" rear exit propshaft went to the rear diff, front one in link above. Also I think the Tiger ZR100 twin engine bike
4x4 used these with one engine running the front diff and one on the rear.
BMW x series looks like it has a similar set up -

russbost - are you wanting to come forward from rear mounted engine into a diff at the fron to drive the front wheels?
IIRC Ultima use a Porsche 911 transmission (G50?) at the rear of their GTR - turned upside down I think. That transmission isn't going to be
cheap though! (If it is what they use) I think it may be a combined gearbox and diff as well.

what about things like the Suzuki sj410 and 413,.. they are still common in the off roading scene,..
oops that is a solid front axle, not ideal.
So next shot would be a 4x4 quad.. honda bigred thing,...?

Thought about that type of thing, but not sure they'd take the power/torque of a car engine throught them. Probably not many around 2nd hand
either.
Thinking further most 4x4 off road type vehicles are probably solid axle and most 4WD cars are probably front engine and have a combined
transmission/front diff.

MX5 (up to 2005) rear differential drive shafts have the same spline as Ford Fiesta outer CV joints.
So you could use an MX5 differential and drive shafts with Ford Fiesta outer CV joints.

Great, thanks for that, exactly the sort of info I was looking for - is that change in 2005 the swap from Mk1 to Mk2?

Hi Russ, I know that they fit the NA & NB MX5's up to 2005.
The later NC (Mk3) cars have larger diameter shafts.
