Pinto Distributor

I have an unmodified 2.0 Pinto with Twin 40's. I gather that I need a non vacuum distributor. Aldon & Bosch do them, but at a price! Anyone out there have any advice on cheaper sorces/alternatives? Also, will the standard coil work, and will I need a ballast resistor?

Many thanks, Ian.

For road use, IMO you would be better off using the vacuum advance if at all possible. The car will run a lot sweeter on part throttle, and give better mpg. The reason that 'tuned' motors dont fit them is that at very high rpm the movable base plate in the dizzy 'chatters' and causes the ignition timing to vary considerably.
Its not major hassle to connect it up, just a case of finding some small diameter metal pipe, and drilling through one of the manifold intake tubes so it is a tight fit and glue it in with araldite. Join this to the dizzy with some standard vac hose and job done!

If you only tap the vacuum off one cylinder and you are using twin 40's I think you will get timing errors as the inlet pulses operate the vac advance every time the inlet valve on that cyl opens ? at high revs this may be ok, but I would imagine it would be a bit erratic at idle.

The last pinto I did just had the standard bosch dizzy with the vac capulse removed and the base plates bolted together, The 2L made nearly 125 BHP so it can't have been that bad a solution !
