Exhaust piping

I've noticed on some builds that people seem to have used some sort of flexible heating ducting for their manifold end of the exhaust.

Am I right or going daft? If so, what is the down side (benefits are obvious - easy of manufacture for a start)

How is this joined to A: The manifold and B: the exhaust?

I did this in Ye Olde Sylva because it was the easiest way.
No surprise there eh.....

I actually went to a truck spares place to buy it. That was because our exhaust had a 4" bore all the way. It actually slips over standard exhaust pipe diameters and you get huge exhaust clamps to suit it.

To my eternal embarrasment, the next owner raced the car with that setup on it.

You can get flexible sections in all sizes with a wire mesh covering and weldable ends or you can get the spiral type stuff to clamp over your existing tube.

yours, Pete

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
