head gaskets

Greeting all, been a while but now back in the country(missed exeter by one day bugger)

Headgasket question for all you folks with 1700 X-flows.

The company that did my re-bore says that a standard head gasket with fit(eng bored out +.090") is this true?

I can't measure the old gasket as i threw it away in a rash moment of tidying up(should never happen i know)

All help greatly recieved cheers

Dan

Looking in the Burton Power catalogue, they sell regular gaskets, and then also gaskets for upto : 83.2, 83.3, 84 and 87.5, so I'm guessing it would be wise to use one of the larger ones, which one, I don't know though without doing the sums, and I'll leave that to you

Hi Scutter my pink tented friend!
The max oversize for x-flow is +90 so it SHOULD be ok. But no engine tuner I know of uses a std gasket as the fire ring is a little too close to the bore edge for comfort and tends to errode. I would use a Felpro from Burtons or a Reinz from Vulcan. If you look at either of these against a replacement set you'll see the difference in quality. Last time I used a Reinz from Vulcan, about £16+vat I think. No probs so far. If you want a reuseable one go for a steel cometic one from Vulcan. £90 though!!!
