X-Flow & Type 9 Gearbox
I wish to mate a 5 speed type 9 gearbox to a 1600cc X-flow. My main guide to this is the Which Kit? book Tunning Ford Pinto and X-Flow engines. This
book states that to mate to a 1600cc x-flow you need a gearbox from a 1600cc Sierra (a 2ltr Pinto would require a gearbox from a 2ltr Sierra).
Why can't I use one from a 2ltr Sierra, what are the differences, and how can I tell them apart?
Cheers!!

I have used a RS2000 box coupled up to my X'Flow. You just need to make sure your clutch centre plate is the large splined one - or buy a new one.
As a general rule all Ford engines fit all Ford boxes.

Compatibility
I don't know where this myth started but as far as I'm aware they are exactly the same the only type 9 that is different are the ones that sit
behind the V6 's apparently the input shaft is longer.
If you get one from a 1600 get the clutch as well cause they have a smaller 71/2" clutch like your xflow where as the 2ltr has an 81/2" clutch which
means either buying a 1600 clutch plate or redowelling your flexplate to suit the 81/2" clutch.

v6 box from a 2.8 capri will go if you lop 12mm off input shaft.the ratios are slightly closer than the pinto versions.

Don't use the v6 box, input shaft is different, and so is the bell housing!

Theres a few V6 boxes about
You have the type B which is a 4 speed and an all in one casing/bellhousing
Type N is im sure a type 9 (N1 / N3) - seperate bellhousing
You also have the v6 box that was used in the capri..with a type of remote gear lever selection on it.
ASAIK all the above have longer input shafts. I'm having the opossite problem of putting a 2 lt box onto a V6.
