zetec to escort gearbox?
hi,
anyone done this? is it a good idea?
basically have an escort xflow and gearbox (not sure 4 or 5 speed but think i remember reading they are all 4 speed - right?). also have a brand new
zetec which ive been building up with megajolt, twin 40's and the whole 9 yards. only need to fit a decent sump. i was saving this for another
project but the locost is looking so good i now feel i wnat to do it jusatice in the engine department.
what to do?
fit mt75 - will require new mountings and prop, but best option in the long run, or is the escort box fine for the job?
any other complication in fitting the zetec at this relativly late point?
want to crack on tomorrow due to forced break but what to do?
thanks for advice.

There will/would be those who will tell you that the escort gearbox won't take the grunt of the zetec. I reckon the fact that you are putting it
in a locost makes a difference. I would stick with the escort box - bolt it right up, no problem - and if it gives cause for concern in future fix
it.
I reckon it won't though, because of the lightness of your car.

Yes - this should be possible, but you'll need to get the right clutch plates and release bearings to make it all work together.

If it's a 2.0l you will need a different/modified flywheel to take a Pinto clutch

The one thing I will say, though, is that the 0.8:1 5th gear from a Type9 or MT75 is probably worth its weight in gold on the motorway.

Putting aside the fact that the MK2 Escort box is only just strong enough for a 1600. The MK1 Escort box (externally identical) was even weakler
barely able to cope with the standard 1300.
But if you do deside to try it getting a suitable 22mm x 20 spline clutch driven plate could be a major problem. To get round this you could get the
flywheel redrilled to take the 7.5" xflo clutch but it would be easier to change he gearbox.
