High oil pressure
Last year I was woried about low oil pressure, this year high oil pressure!
I took the car out for its first drive this year last night. The highest oil pressure I got last year was around 40psi. Last night I was getting about
60psi at 2500 revs driving along steady and over 80psi when I was thrashing it a bit!
Same oil, filter etc. I just topped it up a bit.
Is this anything to worry about? Is it likely to f**k oil seals?
Car goes well though, forgot how fast it was

I wonder if you have the same problem as I might have (see thread elsewhere) - a sticking oil pressure relief valve. That would explain an
unexpectedly high reading, and maybe the cause of your low reading previously.
Shouldn't affect oil seals, as I can't think of any in the high-pressure oil circuit - they're all in the "atmospheric
pressure/splashing it around area." I think.

The bigest danger with high oil presure due to a stuck relief is the can of the oil filter will split take off like a rocket.
Usually if the relief is stuck the oil presure will be normal when the engine warms up, -- if it isn't suspect the gauge, electric oil presure
gauges are very prone to dodgey readings

T needle never used to move last year, but its up and down like a yoyo now when I'm thrashing it

My 16v runs similar to the pressures you have mentioned, there are a few threads on the westy forum on this one!

Northy , is your gauge electric? if so it may be worth borrowing a workshop type gauge and checking your oil pressure as already mentioned by B.T.
electric gauges are very prone to unreliable readings. It could be that you have an electrics problem causing the readings to fluctuate? H.T.H

I've been thinking about the problems that could be caused by excessively high oil pressure - the only things I can think of are power loss, and
possible damage to the oil pump (or its drive) caused by it working too hard.
I'm not sure that the filter itself would burst - although it's a possibility - but there's a fair chance that it's rubber
seal could leak or rupture.
