My MR2 is a 3s-ge (3s-gte is a turbo version) so be careful which MR2 you go for.
PS why do people prefer the 1600 engine to the later 2l?

PPS have a look at this link for the engine combinations
http://www.geocities.com/MotorCity/7177/tech.html

Also have a look at fensport

Note to all: I really don't know when to leave well alone. I tried to get clever with the mods, then when they gave me a lifeline to see the error of my ways, I tried to incite more trouble via u2u. So now I'm banned, never to return again. They should have done it years ago!

if you want a toyota 4age you will find it in the rwd form you want only in the corolla GT of the mid 80's.

you can also find it in the front drive corolla GTis but then you need a t50 gearbox from fensport.

ive got a mk1 mr2 on my drive which is gona be my 4age donor. these are rwd but have the engine in the rear as well so im gonna need a t50 box.

john for you question as to why ppl prefer the mk1 to the mk2 engine is that its a lot lighter and smaller, doesnt need shoehorning. also you can find mk1's cheap enough to be a good donor. also the insurance is a lot better than on a 2 litre. only has 25 more bhp i believe... if the stats are right

Good reasons, however the power difference is not quite right. For example some 4age's kick out 122bhp, with some 3sge making 173bhp. (without turbo)

syber, here's the MR2's and their engine outputs. ..

MR2 [1984-1987] - (1600cc 4AGE 122 Bhp) - Early Spec Toyotas first mid-engined sports car with the potent 4AGE. Now considered a classic and still popular.

MR2 [1987-1989] - (1600cc 4AGE 122 Bhp) - Late Spec The Later Spec and revised MR2 which included Interior, Exterior and Mechanical Improvements.

MR2 [1986-1989] - (1600cc 4AGZE 145 Bhp)

MR2 [1990-1991] - (2000cc 3SFE 121 Bhp) The new entry level MR2.

MR2 GTi-16 [1990-1994] - (2000cc 3SGE 158 Bhp) The replacement for the AW11 with an engine borrowed from the ST182.

MR2 GTi-16 [1994-2000] - (2000cc 3SGE 173 Bhp) Facelift for the SW20 included revised interior/exterior, suspension and more power.

MR2 GTS Turbo [1990-2000] - (2000cc 3SGTE 200-240 Bhp)
