type 9 gearbox trouble?
Hi all
I'm finding it hard to find second gear when downshifting, first to second is very slick. could this be the box on its way out or could
something need adjusting?
Thanks
Adrian

As long as the other gearchanges are ok it sounds like the box. Have you tried double clutching it

Could it be the positioning of your remote if your using one?
I know ours needed some fine adjustment.
Or possibly trying to change down into 2nd when your still going slightly too fast?
I know some gearboxes don't like that

So does yours still have the reverse gate on?
Ours has a replicated gate on and you have to press firmly against the gate almost as if your trying to get it in reverse
before pushing backwards altho I think thats when I get carried away and can't find 2nd on the way up!

I have this problem regarding downshift to 2nd gear,i have a remote which i do think isnt helping.
Also i've selected reverse instead of 1st,i'm sure the box is fine and think its a damaged fork on the selector or the little plastic
saddle the gearstick fork sits over is knackered.

if you take the top off the box, you can see the mechanism changing gears - but be careful fiddling, things can fall out with the lid off! took me
half an hour to get it all back together!

Hi Bob
Is your 5th gear a bit awkward?
JoelP do you mean the main cover or where the gearstick bolts on?

5th gear hasnt been a problem so far,i think my problem is the selector on the westie remote i have where it sits onto the connection rod on the
gearbox.
Is your plastic saddle like part ok ? if its worn i've heard it can be a problem.

As a reply to some gears being hard to select with remotes .
If you try and use a really small gaitor, (eg. ours is a cobra hoop ring)
Then sometimes the remote can catch on the sides of this making gears hard to select,
or if you make too small a hole in the transmission tunnel top cos it can travel a suprising distance
