radiator orientation?

yes, the ubiqitous polo rad strikes again

looking at making mounts for the polo rad, i know it is quite tight inside a standard nose on the width and the lower pipe conenction can be an awkward spot, but noticed than Ben (BMF) has mounted his the other way round, ie in 'portrait' orientation, link here:

I'd only seen them mounted in the in the normal 'landscape' orientation previously, such as surrey dave's famous incarnation:

Will positioning tha rad vetically have any effect on the cooling system? The water pump is nearer the bottom of the block, so will have to push the water upto the top of the rad, then fill the rad up and push the water back out of the top of the rad again to the rest of the system. with hot air rising etc, does this mean it will be less efficient this way round? forgive my ignorance, but i've never really studied the way the water flows in a cars cooling system..

Ned.

Better mounted as per normal reasons are

(1) Thermosyphon effect -- colder water is denser so collects at the bottom of the rad so this where the pump inlet should be.

(2) Normal arangment is much more likely to continue flowing for longer in event of loss of coolant.

I had considered mounting it vertically to make it easier to route pipes, in the end, I simply rotated it 180 degrees, so the the hoses go to the offside, this suites X Flows better as all the outlets from the block point to the offside.

I'm still overheating but i think thats another kettle of fish entirely.

Cheers
