engine angle

Daft question.... probably..

How important is it to have the engine on a horizontal plane?
Reason I ask is that I have raised the engine mounts by 20mm but haven't touched the gearbox mount as my gear linkage wont let me raise the box.
Result is the engine kinda high at the front..
Any thoughts guys?

If it's a crossflow, it's meant to be higher at the front - makes the carb sit horizontal.

I used a spirit level on the top of the inlet manifold, so that the carb is level. This makes the engine higher at the front, but apparently thats how it was in the Escort.
