Fan Fixing

Having trouble fixing the fan to the radiator. The fan mounting points don't reach my radiator mounts and there is no obvious way to fix it. Kit instructions recommend silicone or PVU, but I don't think this will be secure enough.

Would it be reasonable to tye-wrap the fan to the radiator, looping the tye wraps through the radiator and around the fins?

What other methods are there?

Thanks,

Tim

There are certainly aftermarket fan kits avalable that supply cable tie type fixings that go through the rad fins. Personally i dont like this idea but have no practical experience to back this up. My theory is that these are weak enough to start off with and any 'foreign' load, especially with a hard suspension car is not good news.
I too have this same challenge and am thnking about making some brackets that will fit from the rad mounting brackets to the fan. There never seems to be a convenient spot for this but some lightweight steel brackets should be compliant enough to be bent into the right place. Possibly some strips of ali might suffice. I have seen it done with angle iron but it was well over engineered.

Ive found rad / fan mounting to be a bit of a pain so far to make it look good. Its easy to lash some brackets up but they look rough - im trying to aim for a factory finish build.

I've cable tied mine on. I put a cable tie through the rad mounting and then between the fins on my rad. The cable tie then went through a hole in a piece of plastic (cut from square drain pipe!) and back through a second hole. It went between fins on the rad 1 "pipe" lower on the rad than before and was tightened up in the 1st end of the cable tie. I did this for all 8 fitting on my fan to spread the load. With the fan on the front, you can see the plastic "button" washers so it looks good. Car isn't finished yet so it hasn't been driven but the fan hasn't moved or damaged the radiator yet!

Popular to tie wrap into place...

If you think PU isn't strong enough - think again.... it is if correctly applied. Never underestimate it...
