Sierra 4x4 Diff ???

Good Evening Peoples

I have a Sierra 4x4 Diff with output drive flanges . Does any one know if they just pop out so I can use Caterham Drive Shaft.

A puzzling question - is caterham's driveshaft meant to be used with a push fit diff? ie, is it splined or flanged?

Caterham driveshafts are push fit into diff and not the flanged type found on XR4x4

that strikes me as very suprising - why do they not sell the lobro fit driveshafts, which you need for normal LSDs?

it is possible to change from one type to the other, never done it myself but marc from MNR has.

Caterham supply the diff with the kit so they use the most common type of sierra diff with the slide in joints. I guess this means that there is no need to make the lobro type flanged driveshafts.
I also believe they build brand new LSD units into standard assemblies that still use slide in Tripod joint housings.

The thing I don't know if there is any difference in the bearings etc that mean the output flanges can't be removed and replaced with regular slide in ones?

Paul.

Whilst you can easily remove the flanges of a standard LSD, you can't then use the push in driveshafts. This is because the LSD requires unequal length stub shafts inside it (because the diff mechanism is moved over to one side to give room for the viscous coupling) and the push in driveshafts have equal length splines on the ends.

You can however remove the flanges from an open lobro-type diff and shove push-in shafts in, but that's probably not much use to you!

If you must use the push in caterham shafts your only LSD option is an aftermarket one fitted to an open sierra diff (i.e. what caterham use).

I went into the RSPCA office the other day. It was so small you could hardly swing a cat in there.
